Project Coordination

What is it?

Implemented as a pilot program in March 2004, Work Control – Project Coordination is responsible for coordinating multiple shop/multiple trade projects involving Facilities Maintenance, Work Control, and various other departments in Plant Operations.

Project coordination was identified by our customers as an area of concern within Plant Operations. Of particular concern was Plant Operations ability to effectively coordinate projects involving more than one shop or department. With fair regularity, the "hand-off" from one shop to the next was not handled well. Communication of project start & completion dates, as well as information on progress or lack of progress, were other issues our customers felt needed to be addressed. In addition, many of the projects require the intervention of Plant Operations engineers when obstacles are encountered, and the communication of issues to and from our engineers was often confusing.

In response, Ed Schaedig came to Work Control under a pilot program to determine the effectiveness of providing Project Coordination from within Work Control. Ed developed a seamless process, working with the customers, shop supervisors, engineers, and others to promptly complete projects. Communication is the key. The results have been outstanding and many customers have rated the program highly. Ed's efforts were so successful that Project Coordination was made a permanent part of Work Control in December 2005.

How can you use this service?

Building facility managers, construction managers, Plant Operations engineers, supervisors, and others involved in multiple shop/multiple trade maintenance projects are encouraged to take advantage of Work Control - Project Coordination. The service does come at a slight cost. When coordinating a project, the Coordinator will typically bill a work request at an hourly rate of less than $45 per hour. Our customers have found this charge to be money well-spent; resulting in projects that come in on-time; on-budget; and with the customer satisfied when the project is finished.

To get Work Control – Project Coordination involved in a project, simply contact the Plant Operations Call Center (POCC) at 734-647-2059 or email at: and request that the Work Control – Project Coordinator (Shop M1200) be added to your work request.
