Utility System Failure Analysis

A Utility System Failure Analysis report has been prepared by Plant Operations, Utilities and Plant Engineering, to assist the University community in dealing with an interruption of utility service (i.e., electricity, natural gas, steam, water & sewer). The report:

  1. describes how utility interruptions of varying duration will affect the operation of buildings on the several Ann Arbor campuses;
  2. details the steps that building occupants can take to minimize disruptions or loss during a utility interruption;
  3. summarizes the steps that will be taken by Plant Operations staff in responding to a utility interruption.

The report contains appendices which identify the utility services provided to each U-M building, the location of on-site generators, and the location of outlying boilers.

If you are involved in facilities management or operations for your U-M unit, it is recommended that you take a moment to review the Utility System Failure Analysis report. In the event of a utility interruption, the report can be used as a guide for understanding the consequences of the interruption, and organizing your unit’s response.
