Waste Sort Results
In October 2012, a refuse sort was held to determine the makeup of the refuse waste stream from U-M buildings. Refuse from six buildings was sorted and categorized based upon recyclability and compostability. See the results and how they compare to the 2007 waste sort.

Food Waste Composting Pilot at the Michigan League
The Waste Reduction and Recycling Office (WRRO) has completed a post-consumer food waste composting pilot in conjunction with the Michigan League. See the report.

Stadium Recycling
On November 26th, the University of Michigan played Ohio State. It was the final home game of the year with 114,132 fans in attendance. At the game, with the help of Michigan fans and vendors, we recycled 15 percent of the waste from the game and kept this material from going to the landfill. We handled 3.56 tons of recyclables!

Learn more about the new recycling program with a tour of the City of Ann Arbor's newly-retrofitted recycling facility.

Stadium Recycling Rate Increases with Single Stream!
Fans saw a change in the recycling program at this season’s home football games. In addition to plastic bottles and aluminum cans, plastic cups were added to the recycling roster. Fans could recycle in bins located at every gate and around the concourse. As a result, the recycling rate for this season increased to 23.9% over last season’s 19.0%! We collected 4 more tons of recyclables this season, with one fewer game. Fans and staff did a great job recycling and we hope to do even better next year!

Mikan Corporation will now be recycling inkjet and toner cartridges from campus.
