Batteries and Hazardous Materials

Batteries are collected here at the U of M and sent off campus to be recycled. This is coordinated through HAZMAT or the Hazardous Materials Management Program at OSEH. Please call them at 763-4568 to request a collection bucket for your office or building.

Students in Residence Halls should check with the front desk for the location of the collection container. Residents of Northwood Community Apartments should bring used batteries to the collection bucket at the Community Center on McIntyre.

Most hazardous waste items are not "recycled", but are also collected separately for safe disposal. Hazardous Waste may include such items as fluorescent light bulbs, solvents, and paint. This program is also coordinated by OSEH's Pollution Prevention Program office, and you may call them at 763-4568 for more information.
