Turf Crew Responsibilities

The Turf crew is responsible for maintaining 163 acres of turf on campus. Included in this are fertilizing, aeration, disease prevention and treatment and renovation projects. The team is made up Mike Jones, Heath Goodell, and Rich Bowman.

Student Opportunities on the Turf Crew

Student crews along with fulltime staff perform many turf maintenance related tasks which include fertilizing, aerating, seeding and watering of lawns. The crews are also responsible for the installation and renovation of turf which could include the use of tractors with implements, loaders, walk-behind rototillers, slitseeders and hydroseeders. Other tasks may include mowing, string trimming and edging sidewalks. Most of this work requires the use of motorized walk-behind equipment and consists of working near large motorized equipment. Some of this work is physical, requiring heavy lifting (i.e. sod installation), raking and shoveling.
