Practical Supervisor

The Practical Supervisor series (consisting of 8 courses) is designed for both new and experienced supervisors to provide them with hands-on, functional information they need to do their day-to-day jobs. The emphasis is more on applied knowledge and skills rather than theory.

The participants will benefit not only from the knowledge of expert presenters, but also from the interchange of ideas and experiences with classmates.

The Practical Supervisor series is the first track of three that are required for supervisors in Plant Operations. Supervisors are registered through their departments' training coordinators in Plant Operations with these exceptions:

Crucial Confrontations

This method for resolving conflict has been successfully piloted in Plant Operations and across the nation. Based on solid research focused on effectively solving troublesome behaviors in the workplace, the authors encourage us to "never walk away from another conflict again." Hands-on tools for resolving violated expectations, breaking agreements, and unprofessional behavior are adaptable to most challenges we meet in addressing other employees.

University Financial Systems

The ultimate objective of this workshop is to develop a foundation of skills and knowledge to enable participants to manage their own budgets in a manner that meets department expectations. An overview of the University's financial systems will be given, in addition to some tools pertinent to different financial needs within Plant Operations.
